The CPHI-PMEC exhibition returned to Shanghai this June, bringing together the global pharmaceutical and API community for three days of cutting-edge showcases and technical exchange.
As a pioneer in chromatographic technology, Welch Materials once again stole the spotlight—our booth was buzzing from open to close, and our concurrent customer symposium drew packed audiences eager to delve into the future of separation science.

Exhibition Highlights: Innovation on Full Display
Welch’s booth featured our entire chromatography portfolio—from high-performance analytical columns to robust preparative systems—and a selection of lab consumables designed for day-to-day reliability.
New Instrument Launches
- EasyPure Rapid Prep LC: Visitors flocked to see our latest flash purification system in action, impressed by its speed and scalability.
- Welprep 2000 Upgrade: The debut of our enhanced preparative HPLC platform sparked lively discussions about throughput gains and operational simplicity.
Expert Engagement
- Scientists from pharmaceutical manufacturers, biotech firms, and academic institutes stopped by to compare performance data, discuss specific application challenges, and explore trial-use opportunities for our columns, solvents, and sample vials.
- Many long-time Welch users praised the consistent quality of our stationary phases, while newcomers were eager to evaluate our full line of products under real-world conditions.

Customer Symposium: Thought Leadership in Session
Held in Meeting Room M8, the Welch Customer Symposium delivered three specialized lectures, each met with standing-room-only attendance.
-
Chromatographic Columns for Biopharmaceutical Analysis
Presented by Ram Krishan Sood, Market Director of Welch India, this session highlighted Welch’s HPLC column technologies optimized for proteins, peptides, and complex biomolecules—including the recently launched Advanchrom HIC-Butyl Column, which targets primarily on characterization of ADCs. -
WelPrep 2000: A Chinese Solution for Global Separation & Purification
Fengwei Shao, Director of Instruments Division, guided attendees through real-world case studies demonstrating how our upgraded preparative HPLC system resolves challenges with remarkable efficiency. -
GLP-1 Drug Purification Solutions
Haiyang Pei, Director of Product Marketing, outlined the market potential and industry pain points of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) drugs with our dedicated solutions that combine high loading capacity, high purity, and low cast, performing excellently in both R&D, pilot-scale preparation, and production-scale purification.

Trends and Debates
During our roundtable session of the symposium, we engaged customers in thoughtful debates around the future of domestic column technologies. Key questions in this session included:
1. Will Chinese-made columns replace imports within three years in China?
Attendee:
“It takes more than column manufacturers—it requires the entire pharma ecosystem of China to champion homegrown solutions. In early days, drugs in China were imitations of foreign ones, and research groups often stick with foreign columns that are documented in the original methods for consistency. Although price advantages exist in Chinese columns, they are not enough for most research groups to make changes at the present.”
2. How should the industry navigate ongoing involution and price wars?
Attendee:
“Competition drives innovation. Our industry needs this competitive push with more domestic brands entering. Companies that hone their core strengths—investing in robust R&D, ensuring product consistency, and creating truly differentiated offerings—will be the ones to thrive. This wave of intense domestic competition shows we’re on the brink of rapid growth, and this is also why I firmly believe high-quality Chinese columns will soon rival, if not replace, imported ones.”

Brainstorming on advanced column headplate designs, ultra-high carbon loading, and circular stationary phases were also captured in this session. These conversations will directly inform our R&D roadmap, ensuring that customer feedback translates into ever-better products and services.

Looking Ahead
Welch Materials extends heartfelt thanks to all who visited our booth, participated in the symposium, and contributed their expertise. Your perspectives drive our commitment to push chromatographic innovation forward. As we digest your feedback and refine our offerings, we remain dedicated to empowering separation science—both at home and around the world.
Stay tuned for upcoming webinars, application notes, and trial programs. Together, we’ll chart a course toward the next generation of chromatography.
