Chiral chromatographic columns are generally used for the separation of chiral isomers. In addition to chiral isomers, they also have certain effects on the separation of other isomers or components with very similar structures.

Applications

Separation of p-cyanobenzyl chloride & m-cyanobenzyl chloride

The structure is shown in the figure:

p-cyanobenzyl chloride
m-cyanobenzyl chloride

The two substances are meta- and para-isomers, and there is no separation trend in the reversed-phase system with different selectivity chromatographic columns, so they cannot be separated. Finally, a chiral chromatographic column was used to achieve separation.

Chromatographic conditions

Chromatographic column: Ultisil® Cellu-D 4.6*250mm, 5μm.

Mobile phase: n-hexane/isopropanol=98/2.
